CHRISTMAS IN ALTEA

Christmas is already here and Altea is decorated for the occasion. We love that both local people and visitors enjoy the most of these special holidays and all the activities that have been prepared.

They are days of magic and dreams, of enjoying family and having fun, and what a better way to do it than in a charming town, full of leisure activities, concerts, storytelling, cinema for children and with a dreamy New Year’s Eve as well as horseback riding that will delight the eyes of the little ones.

Altea is always wonderful but even more during Christmas time. Its cobbled streets decorated with lights, the shops and its Christmas decorations, the aroma of typical sweets … An ideal environment for a walk with family, couple or friends.

Until January 6 you can enjoy different activities organized at Plaça del Nadal, or Plaza del Ayuntamiento. If you like ice skating or if you have never done it and that you want to try, you can find here a synthetic skating rink, attractions and games for the little ones. Ice skating is a special and different sport. If you come with children to skate, you will give them a fantastic experience that will remain in their minds forever. In this square, Santa Claus will pick up the letters from December 21 to 24.

The Sant Silvestre Nocturna is a traditional and family race where everyone can participate. This is celebrated on December 27. It starts from the door of the City Hall at 18:30 for the children’s category (under 16 years) and at 20:00 for the adult category (16+), over a distance of 3.9 km. The particularity of this race is that both, the younger and the oldest, can participate and also with their pets. As every year, the most original costume of the participants, both individual and group of both categories, as well as the pets will receive a price. For the first 200 registered a gift will be given as well as trophies to the first 3 classified.

Christmas is full of traditions and Altea collects them all for you. From Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. you can visit the spectacular nativity scene installed by the Baixa Belenistas Association in the Municipal Library situated in the House of Culture of Altea. The House of Culture also hosts the exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the coronation of the Virgen del Consuelo, which lasts until January 6.

The libraries of Altea and Altea la Vella will present various activities aimed at all ages and on January 2 the musical and poetic performance Del conte a la poesia with Fina Pla and Ruben Pérez will take at 5:00 p.m.

You can not miss the Christmas concert of the Recreativa Musical de Altea la Vella on December 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cultural Center. As for the musical program of the City Council, there is the concert that the ADDA Symphony Orchestra celebrates in Altea, the 16th of December at 7:00 p.m. The Orchestra is directed by the alteano Josep Vicent.

On December 22, the Alteanense Philharmonic Society will offer its traditional Christmas concert at the Palau Altea. On December 26 at 6:00 pm, you can enjoy a great magic show with “El aprendiz de brujo”. On January 4 at 7:00 PM there will be one of the biggest ice shows recognized around the world: “Beauty and the Beast on Ice” offered by the famous ballet the Ice Palace of Moscow, and on the 6th of January you can enjoy the “Great New Year concert” with the unmistakable stamp of the Strauss Festival Orchestra.

If you want to live a different New Year’s Eve, do not hesitate to come to Altea. Starting the year close to the sea is always a good plan. You have many gastronomic options to enjoy your New Year’s Eve dinner and you can book a lot of restaurants of all types and hotels for all budgets. Altea is a very lively town, both day and night, and the night of the 31 st of December is always very special. Therefore, we invite you to celebrate it at the Plaza de la Iglesia de Altea or at the Plaza de la Iglesia in Altea la Vella, where you will not miss the traditional cotillion, the grapes, the cava, the music and the free fireworks to celebrate the new year. Do not miss it!

The program of the celebration of the Three King’s Day through “La Burreta” will consist of the collection of letters of all children on January 3 and all of this with the help of the Royal Postman.

On January 5 at noon, the Three Kings finally arrive at the town, visiting the elderly at the Les Blogueres residence. The Parade will start at 5:30 pm and go from the parking of the Faculty of Fine Arts to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The following day they will go to Altea la Vella to perform the cavalcade and the distribution of gifts.
